As an only child he was rather pampered, but not sheltered. Part of him rebelled against his parents' doting, prompting him to strive for independence. Although not particularly spoiled, in his youth he was markedly arrogant and self-centered. This tempered with age and the development of his deep friendships with his classmates. In 1976 Sirius Black, James' closest friend, moved in with his family. Mr. and Mrs. Potter actively incorporated him, as well as James' other close friends as extensions of their family. About a month after James graduated from Hogwarts in 1978, his elderly parents died of natural causes. This struck a terrible blow to James, especially because his father died only a few days after his mother. Lily and Remus were able to draw James and Sirius out of their grief. Peter had been there as well, trying his best to help, but was hardly one to stand up to James' temper. In part to help get past his loss, James threw himself into work for the Order of the Phoenix. In October of 1978, he and Lily were quietly married with Sirius Black as his best man. Although he desperately wanted to start a family of his own, they both decided to wait a year before trying to conceive. James wanted a few children, hoping to give his offspring the companionship he had wanted in his childhood, and the kind of fierce love he felt for his close friends. When Lily became pregnant in late October 1979 and they learned of the prophecy, they went into hiding. Occupation: While alive, his wealthy parents bestowed him with a fortune that absolved him of needing a well-paying job. After Hogwarts he was intending to enter Auror training, but opted to take a year off after his parents died. Although, after a few months he instead devoted himself to the Order of the Phoenix. Residence: While living, Godric's Hollow Financial status: While living, extremely wealthy Political views: Order of the Phoenix (progressive and egalitarian) Blood Status: Pure Blood Sexuality: Heterosexual, and very comfortable with this. He is fond of playing and teasing with his close male friends that would imply otherwise, but this is mostly done in jest. Physical description Height: 183 cm Weight: 73 kg Distinguishing marks: On the front of his right hip is a simple rune design that means "prongs of the stag." Also, his back sports a few faint scars left from the days of helping Remus through his monthly transformations at Hogwarts. Give us a description of your character's appearance: James is tall and lithe. His dark hair is inconsolably unruly, in part due to his preference for looking as though he just hopped off a broom. While he cleans up rather smartly he is more comfortable in jeans, well worn shoes, and a t-shirt or jumper. More often than not he's wearing his glasses, and always does so while reading. Give us a description of your character's personality: James still maintains much of his good-natured bravado from his years at school. His malicious bullying was reigned in by his 6th year, due in part to the influence of Lily Evans. He can often be impulsive, and on occasion a little reckless. He generally has a very slow fuse and it takes quite a lot to provoke his genuine anger, but once sparked it rages hot and fast. Never one to shy from a laugh, he has a great appreciation for pranks between friends. He harbors a very strong protective drive concerning those he cares for. Though open, warm, and generous with his friends, he finds it difficult to put himself in the shoes of his adversaries. However, when push comes to shove he is willing to set aside nearly any differences to deal with moments of crisis. With strangers he is gregarious, keen to make friends and always willing to help. He also has something of a fanatic attitude toward Quiddich. History Please give us a brief history of what happened to your character past canon to bring them to this point. As James dies very early on in canon, he remains dead until revived. He wakes up in the Hogwarts infirmary, unaware of how he got there. Resurrected Characters If your character is one of the resurrected, what is their last memory and why have they returned at their particular age?: Since the general theme behind the returning dead seems to be an underlying purpose, the memory with which he returns is the birth of his son – the moment in his life when he felt his truest sense of purpose with the most clarity. Why have they been brought back? On a personal level, his driving purpose is to be reunited with his family and loved ones. On a greater, cosmic level I would like to see him become an advocate for overturning the legislation that victimizes those who express a dissenting opinion. Plotting How does your character feel about the post-war world?: A friend to muggle borns, pure bloods, and mixed blooded wizards alike, James is somewhat ambivalent about exposing muggles to the wizarding world. On the one hand, he bears a fondness for muggles and enjoys much of muggle culture. However, he has not enjoyed the past years of growing tolerance and fears that the delicate balance the maintains peace between the two communities will fail. Initially, he is an avid supporter for rounding up Death Eaters and their ilk for their just deserts, but eventually sees how the backlash could be terrible, and will see the hypocrisy in turning oppression upon others. What short and long term goals do you have for your character?: James' most immediate goal is to find his wife and son. Once he realizes that they are not as he remembers them last, he will aggressively attempt to mend/build them. For the first several months he would like to be very much involved in bringing Death Eaters to justice. On a long term level, he will eventually grow to oppose what he considers to be overly malicious treatment of their relatives. His view on muggle integration will be very much influenced by the individuals who become close to him. Innate inclination seems to be opposed to dissolving the statute of secrecy. Whichever way he eventually goes, he is likely to become very vocal. When he eventually understands how the innocent family members of Death Eaters are suffering for no crime other than association, he will begin advocating/lobbying/petitioning for more equitable treatment. | |||||||||
